Climate warning from the ice

While world leaders bickered at the Bonn climate conference, a thinning ice bridge in Antarctica snapped. The bridge was bracing the vast Wilkins Ice Shelf. Now the ice shelf  – half the size of Scotland – is also likely to collapse. Will this major global warming event spur our leaders into urgent action?

Shedding light on Japan’s whaling scandal

Thanks to those whales supporters who joined our peaceful and powerful vigil at the Japanese Embassy, Canberra. We delivered a letter urging the Japanese government to end whaling in the Southern Ocean and allow a fair trial for Greenpeace activists, the Tokyo Two.

Victory for one of the world’s oldest forests

We did it! More than one-third of Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest – 2.1 million hectares – is officially off limits to logging. It’s an area half the size of Switzerland and one of the world’s longest-lived forests. The result of a 10-year campaign, this victory is a beacon of hope for global forest protection.

Don’t eat in the dark

Most genetically modified (GM) foods don’t require labelling. Some of your cupboard ‘staples’ may have GM ingredients (like bread, snack foods and margarine) and your meat, milk and eggs may be from animals fed GM feed. So how do you know what you’re eating? Ask your health ministers to add GM food labelling laws to their upcoming review with the Food Regulation Ministerial Council.
